Turkey Pots
Q.
What is the difference between a standard stock pot and a turkey
frying pot?
A.
A standard stock pot is generally about the same diameter and
height. In order to conserve oil, which is a major
expense in frying turkeys, the turkey fry pot is taller and
slimmer.
Q. What
size turkey pot do you need?
A. You can fry up to 16 lb turkeys in
your 26 quart pot, and up to a 20 lb turkey in your 30 quart pot.
From the site owner: Personal
opinion, for what it's worth... I don't recommend frying large
turkeys. I usually fry 2 smaller turkeys rather than
trying to fry a really big bird. It is easier to get a
smaller bird thoroughly cooked without overcooking the
outside. Having said that, although I personally use a
30 QT pot, I don't need one. I didn't know when I bought
my pot. Do you need stainless? Not in my
opinion. Unless you have some personal reason to avoid
it I would stick with aluminum. Aluminum provides lower
cost, better heat conduction, thicker material, and lighter
weight. Keep it clean and it will last many years.
